Loving Oneself



Loving oneself is the most basic part of a healthy, loving relationship and you have to do this for yourself for you from within yourself. If you have a strong sense of self-love, then you will have a fundamental understanding of your own worth, needs, and personal boundaries. This gives you the power to treat yourself with respect and to effectively communicate your needs to others.


When you know how to love yourself, you are less likely to fall into codependent or toxic relationships, as you already know your worth and won’t tolerate disrespectful or harmful behaviour from others. A lack of self-love can lead to low self-esteem and the acceptance of mistreatment from others.


Self-love means that you will be more confident and feel more secure in your relationships. When you understand how to love yourself, you will be less likely to feel insecure or seek external validation, and this will improve your relationships as you will approach them from a place of authenticity, this will attract healthy and loving relationships to you in all areas of your life.


It's really important to note that loving oneself does not mean being selfish, self-absorbed or neglectful to others. It's about having a healthy balance between taking care of yourself and being there for others. It's also about knowing when to give, when to take care of yourself, and when it's the right time to stay in balance for yourself long-term. When you have strong self-love, you are able to give love and support to others without losing yourself in the process.


So, how can you cultivate self-love and bring in love from others? Here are some tips:

  • Practice self-care and prioritise your own well-being.

  • Surround yourself with positive and supportive people who want you to achieve your best in life.

  • Set clear boundaries and communicate your needs effectively to others.

  • Engage in activities that bring you joy and fulfillment, that give you a sense of good and beauty from within yourself.

  • Focus on your strengths and accomplishments, on what you have done well and are grateful for, not on negative things that have happened in your life.
